Kyocera are based in Kyoto, Japan and were originally known as Kyoto Ceramic Co Ltd in 1959, later shortening their name to Kyocera in 1982. They are well known for various goods such as cutting tools, solar power generating systems and components for medical systems. Recently they have moved into the mobile phone market in selected countries, having taken over the Sanyo mobile phone company.

In the computing world, Kyocera manufactered one of the first battery powered laptop computers, sold as the Tandy Model 100.

Further, they are a brand that is mainly known in the world of computers as a printer and digital camera manufacturer and having bought photocopy maker Mita in 2000, the printing division is known fully as Kyocera Mita.
