Samsung are a Korean company, known in the UK as an electronics manufacturer.
They were founded in 1938 and produced noodles and sold other groceries. After the Korean war, Samsung expanded and had the largest woolen mill in South Korea. Samsung continued to expand and moved into retail and insurance, not entering electronics until the 1960s.
Samsung decided to concentrate more on electronics after the 1997 financial crisis and sold the majority stake of the Samsung motor division to Renault and pulled out of manufacturing aircraft although they still make aeroplane engines.
A huge number of electronic products that have been manufactured by Samsung have been sold under various brand names. The list of names includes Sony, Dell, IBM, Compaq and HP. Other companies including Apple buy products from Samsung including their memory chips.
Samsung have diversified so much that their printing division seems like a little part of their business. Perhaps this is true but a small part of such a huge company is still larger than some entire companies in the printing industry.
Their printing products have mainly focused on only laser fax machines and laser printers, leaving out inkjet printers for many years. Lately they have made inkjet fax machines and dedicated photo printers to compete with the photo printers from Kodak and Canon.
