Epson are another Japanese brand of printers and are based in Suwa and Tokyo. They started in 1942 and are officially known as the Seiko Epson Corporation.
Products made today include printers, ink cartridges, ribbon and toner cartridges, which can be bought at PC Ink. Surprisingly, they still make dot-matrix printers which require ribbons and make a lot of noise during operation. Most competitors in the dot-matrix printing industry stopped making their printers to move onto laser, wax and inkjet based printing technologies.
They developed a printing technique for inkjet printers that did not require heating the ink before squirting it towards the paper back in 1993. Some of Epson's printers still use this Micro Piezo technology today.
Although they have had the reputation for being the cheapest printers to run, they now have several other competitors where running costs are similar. Further to their cheaper to run range, they have a number of printers taking multiple ink cartridges which produce fantastic photographs, especially when printed on Epson's original paper.
Many people still think that the company is called 'Epsom', ending in an 'm' when it acutally ends in a 'n', thus 'Epson'.
